Skin Check with Mole Mapping

Mole mapping involves capturing high-resolution images of the skin using our specialised photography system, creating a detailed map to monitor mole changes over time. The GP will then review the images with you and inspect the body for unusual moles, growth, or skin changes. They may use a Dermatoscope for better visualization. Patients are encouraged to discuss any concerns or changes in their skin for accurate assessment and monitoring.

What you need to know:

  • The most accurate photography can be taken if you attend your mole mapping appointment with a makeup free face, tied back hair, light or white coloured undergarments and skin free of tanning products.
  • A specialised tool may be used to closely examine moles and skin lesions.
  • Evaluation of size, shape, colour, and symmetry of moles will be used to identify any abnormal characteristics.
  • You may be asked to point out any areas of concern.
  • Recommendations for skin care and sun protection may be provided.
  • Discussion of any necessary follow-up appointments or treatments based on findings.
  • If suspicious lesions are found, a biopsy may be recommended for further analysis.

Cost: $330 with a portion of the fee claimable through Medicare as well as the ability to claim the photography fee on selected health funds depending on your provider and level of cover.
