Skin Check with Mole Mapping

Mole Mapping

Mole mapping is a comprehensive skin examination that documents and monitors moles using digital imaging. The information supports healthcare professionals in assessing changes in moles over time and planning any further evaluation if needed.

Mole Mapping

Mole mapping involves capturing high-resolution images of the skin using our specialized photography system, creating a detailed record to support ongoing monitoring. The specialist skin GP will review the images with you and inspect the body for unusual moles, growths, or skin changes. A dermatoscope may be used to assist in the examination. Patients are encouraged to discuss any concerns or changes in their skin to support clinical assessment.

What you need to know:

  • For optimal imaging, please attend your appointment with a makeup-free face, hair tied back, light or white-coloured undergarments, and skin free of tanning products.

  • A specialized tool may be used to closely examine moles and skin lesions.

  • The size, shape, colour, and symmetry of moles will be assessed to identify characteristics that may require further evaluation.

  • Patients may be asked to point out any areas of concern.

  • Recommendations for general skin care and sun protection may be provided.

  • Any necessary follow-up appointments or procedures will be discussed based on the findings.

  • If suspicious lesions are identified, a biopsy may be recommended for further analysis.

Cost:
$390, with a portion potentially claimable through Medicare. The photography component may also be claimable on selected health funds, depending on your provider and level of cover. Please note, we do not bulk bill.
